An abundance of cultural, recreational and sports programs is available for the youth of Southern Nevada. Thousands of adult volunteers are actively involved in numerous activities for area youngsters. Virtually all major sports are represented by a youth league in Southern Nevada.
Bennett Family YMCA:
One of the area's largest recreational facilities, the YMCA recently opened a 45,000 square-foot facility at Durango Drive and Gowan Road in Las Vegas. The new facility offers a fitness center, gymnasium, multi-purpose rooms, track break program, day camps and an outdoor pool. The new facility, like the existing 72,000-square-foot building, will cater to area youngsters. The YMCA conducts a number of youth programs including day camps, youth leagues, swimming lessons and a large variety of activities throughout the year. 877-9622
Boys and Girls Club:
Serving the Southern Nevada community since 1961, the Boys and Girls Club reaches approximately 10,000 young people. Programs offered by the organization include teen activities, sports, homework help, and game clubroom activities. 367-2582
Boy Scouts of America:
Southern Nevada offers one of the nation's largest boy scout organizations. The Boulder Dam Area council was established in 1944, and serves approximately 26,000 young people. The organization is supported by 7,000 adult volunteers who help instill the values of good character, and leadership in all young participants. 736-4366
Girl Scouts of Frontier Council:
Girl Scouts of Frontier Council, with 2,600 volunteers, serves 8,700 girls in Southern and Central Nevada. During its 88 years of service, Girl Scouts has been the preeminent organization for girls 5-17 years of age. The organization cultivates values, social conscience and self-esteem, while teaching critical life skills. 385-3677
